What happened to Download.com?!

#1Mike XtremePosted 2/4/2014 7:43:50 AM
I downloaded a codex pack from download.com last night thinking it was still a safe place to download stuff without having to worry about spy/malware. Sure enough even though I said not to download the toolbar crap, it did, and also gave me 8 nice new pieces of spy/malware. When did download.com get so bad? I'll admit I haven't used it in a few years.

Wonder if this will get modded since it's part of the CBS family as well

Be careful with download.com actually. Not so much I say don't go there, I just say be careful. When you try to download something, can't you see how many download buttons were there even though there is only 1 correct one.

download.com has been bad for a while. Don't think I've used it since late 90's/early 2000's.

Yeah, I'm not sure when it went bad but I found out 2 years ago.

I don't think I've used download.com for over a decade, but I'm pretty sure it tells you if there's going to be spyware/malware before you download software from that site.

It has been ages since I have used it. Generally I would always be careful, even in the past, most of the software you can get from there install unnecessary and unwanted components if you forget to click the "do not install your toolbars and crap" box.

Download.com replaced all their download links with a "tool" that downloads it for you along with installing a bunch of crapware.

If you look carefully, under the giant "Download Now" button there is a tiny Direct Download Link. Click on that instead next time.

I used to really like download.com until they started pulling this crap back around 2007. I haven't touched it since.
