i think i got a virus, what options do i have?

#1returnofbeansPosted 2/5/2014 10:23:33 AM
so i didn't notice it until recently because its very subtle. this virus wont let me open some programs, like steam which i made a topic about steam not working but now i think its the virus fault. it also wont let me open league of legends now.

i had avast payed version but i think when i tried to port forward, i caught the virus when i turned off the avast to see if it would help port forward. until recently i noticed that it wont let me turn on my features anymore and it says i have millions of days left on my subscription and it jumps around on how many days i have left.

i tried installing malwarebytes but that wont open either.

are there any free programs that i can use to try and catch and delete what ever virus is blocking my avast?

if malwarebytes didn't work, not even in safemode....
your probably hosed and need to reformat and reinstall your system.

i still have my windows 7 disc, can i reinstall windows 7 while still keeping all my files or does it have to a fresh install? as for safemode, i didn't think of that. ill be right back after trying that.

Antivirus boot disc/USB?

Never had to use one so I don't know what options are out there.

Reformatting will wipe out everything, which is kind of what you would need to do anyway since you don't know what/where the virus is.

Once again, look into a USB/disc bootable virus scanner that runs before windows has started.

heres what im gonna do, i have my OS installed on my 80GB HDD so im gonna just do a format since all my files are on my 1.5TB. if i still have a virus after, i know at least the virus is in my files and not with my OS. ill have to start narrowing down where i caught it.
