Space strategy games

#1pwnater777Posted 2/5/2014 4:53:42 PM
I was looking around Steam but couldn't find any newer (post-2000), non-indie, non-cartoonish space strategy games for under $10 other than EVE Online, which I would play, but I don't know if keeping up with a sub would be worthwhile. Any game suggestions or opinions?

Are you looking for a simulator like game because there is the X3 series(avoid Rebirth though) and for actual strategy there is endless space

I'll check out X3, I've heard good things about the series.

If you're going with X3, you only need Albion Prelude. It contains the features of all the previous X3 titles

So this X3 game, anyone care to sum it up in a small description? Is it the kind of game that you can actually produce your own ships and build a fleet, or should I look elsewhere?

he speaks the truth.

Be warned the game has a steep learning curve, and requires a lot of time. Its not really a game you will get far in playing an hour or two here and there.

Galactic Civilizations 2 is the only space strategy game you ever need.

I'm even ******* around about that. It's easily one of the best 4X games made. Don't know if it's $10 right now, but it does go on sale for like $5-$7.

As for X3...it's a space sim, not really a strategy game. But yeah, you can build your own fleets and stuff if you want.

So there's no battling or anything like that?

Sounds like it may be relaxing, but I mean... C'mon...

There's fighting. You can do a lot of things. Be a pirate, join the navy, be a mercenary, be a trader, miner, set up your own corporation and build products.

Like I said, it's a simulator, not a strategy game.

GalCiv2 is a strategy game. It's very similar to Civ3 or 4, but in space and has a really good diplomatic system (blows anything Civ could ever do out of the water), and the AI is pretty damn good.
