Asus G75VW-DH73-3D for ~$1100 or Alienware 17 3D for ~$1900?

I'm looking at a used/refurb version of that Asus laptop, with a 256GB SSD + 1TB, Blu-Ray, 16GB RAM, and the 3630QM/GTX670MX combo - for about $1100. Only thing it needs is the 3D glasses for <$100.

I called Dell for the best price on a base-config Alienware 17 with the 3D screen, and the best they could do would be ~$1800 after tax (which at that point I'm better off getting a refurb for the same money with better specs). The new one would be 4700MQ/GTX765M, 8GB RAM, 500GB hybrid drive, and DVD drive for ~$1800, or refurb one with 4800MQ/GTX770M, 16GB RAM, 80GB cache SSD + 750GB HDD, and Blu-ray for the same price (although I'd also need the 3D glasses).

Thoughts? Seems like the Asus is the no-brainer based on price, but I dunno if they're notoriously unreliable or something. With the refurb Alienware I am getting better specs, but they're only marginally better...I am also getting something less chunky than the Asus as well as having HDMI input (which would be a nice feature, although unnecessary for the most part).

And for reasons too long to explain, it has to be a laptop with a 3D screen here, so I don't have any other good options.

Are you dead set on a laptop? If you just need to move it frequently, you might consider a nice steam box when they come out.

Otherwise, at the high end at 1900, I would get the Razer blade 128gb for 1800$ Note: if you want extra storage just buy a ssd and put it in. Don't waste money on the vendor memory upgrades that are over prices.

The reason you want the blade is it is far more portable, which is the reason you are getting a laptop, right?

If not, seriously... build a desktop. Its color by numbers easy.

I got a 17 inch ASUS with those specs (no ssd but a 1tb hdd) for $1250.00. same i7 and 765 and ram and has a blu-ray drive.

Yep, literally don't have the space for a desktop or anything of the sort, and I want to have something powerful for photo/video editing on the go (which I'll be doing a lot of come spring/summer). I'm well aware of how to build a desktop and know how much better bang for buck I'm getting, but a laptop just works infinitely better. And the Blade isn't an option because I need a 3D screen.
