man i would have loved to play the first EQ....but my computer sucked....i was too young to get a job...and my parents was tight with money so asking for a game subscription would absolutely be denied

but now that all MMOs are dumbed down now...i'll never get to experience a worthy/modern MMO

You know, the original EQ is still running and releasing new expansions...

"Original" EQ hasn't been "original" since like Planes of Power, and most would say Scars of Velious.

That being said The original EQ is still a pretty descent game. I've been playing it for about 12 years now and have no plans to stop until it folds.

I feel sorry for Wow players. Think how they're gonna feel in their 50s when they realize they wasted half of their lives.

Nice implication that all WoW/MMO players are losers who do nothing but play their game of choice - I personally of/know two people who were pursuing Masters/Doctorate degrees while staying fairly active in WoW. It is indeed possible to enjoy the game without spending every moment in Azeroth...for that matter, how will you feel about all the time you "wasted" posting pointless threads/responses in a forum? Also, think about the percentage of people who piss away years of their life watching SportsCenter or random "reality" shows, at least playing a game requires something of the player and you're actually cooperating (in PvE anyway) with other people.

I feel sorry for all these people who watch TV series' and realise they've wasted x amount of time
I feel sorry for all of these sports players who hit 30 - 40 and realise they've wasted their life because nobody will hire them now
I feel sorry for x because they did an activity they enjoyed and spent a lot of time enjoying it.

All developers steal ideas from other games. It's called progression.

They're all heavily inpired and based upon their predecessors.

Everquest copypasted huge swaths of certain dikumuds content (Soujourn specifically) for a lot of stuff and added graphics. The ranger's skills and spells earned were like 90% exactly the same. Wow is very much an EQ clone, but it polished it and eventually did its own thing to a degree. Just like EQ polished dikumud. They're all diku derivatives.

Everquest added a huge amount of stuff to the genre while being based on diku. Wow moved away from diku mechanics but was heavily inspired by eq. most MMOs for the next 10 years were awful wow clones with little to contribute. The next gen of MMOs should be interesting to see, because it's been a VERY stagnant 10 years. EQN will do a lot for the genre, I think.

Nice implication that I was only talking about Wow players being capable of wasting their life away.

To me an activity is only valuable if you learn something while doing it. TV, as brainless as it is, is still more valuable than most video games.

Vivendi: Let's just rip off EQ, ok?
Blizzard Staff: Ok
Blizzard North: Oh hello, here's how Diablo 3 is shaping up.
Vivendi: Interesting, I'll just take all your work and put into my new MMO.
Blizzard North: Hey wait, that is supposed to...
Vivendi: Shut up, you're fired.

And that's how you make World of EverDiabloCraft.
