driver for GTX 580 cant find my hardware

#1returnofbeansPosted 2/10/2014 12:49:04 AM(edited)
i upgraded my power supply and got a new hard drive so i reinstalled windows and am now installing drivers. i got to my GPU now and when i try to install the drivers. it says no compatable hardware was found.

i should note that on my 500W power supply, i couldnt even hear the fan. on this new 620 that uses modules/pins. i hear it very loudly.

before my last PSU just had the main mobo power supply that was like 16 pin or something and then a lot of sata cables for things like my HDD and DVD reader. now im using modules/pins and this is how i set it up

this red 6 pin / module says just above it "pci-e only" so i figured thats the graphic cards spot right?

so it came with a way to make that 6 pin to into both my 8 pin and around back into the 6 pin since it needs both. its receiving power because the fan power is on, but it wont be found by the driver.

edit: forgot to put the link to the picture that shows the pins that are going into then out and back into the graphic card. this is the way its suppose to be right? or was i suppose to make a single 6 pin into an 8 pin then use another seperate 6 pin to plug into the empty 6 pin. meaning i take 2 slots of my psu "pci-e only" modules or is that too much power going into it?

I can't even make sense of your wiring. You shouldn't have to do crazy s*** like that get your GPU powered with a modern supply.

yah im putting my 500W back in since it was working before. this is just a question out of concern now. do i have to worry that i could have fried it if i wired it wrong? scared i could have just burned out my GPU or something.

With those specs 500w is enough anyway.

If you have 1 8-pin and 1 6-pin on you graphics card, you would run them each straight from the powersupply. If you do not have an 8-pin cable, use a 6 to 8 - pin adapter.
