when do you think 6-8 core intel chips will be in the standard i7 lineup?

Supposedly the low end Haswell E will come only in 6 core @ $350-$400.

That's a start

Yeah, Haswell E is sounding promising, provided all the rumors are true. Mobos will probably be expensive as hell though. X79 isn't too bad right now but it's extremely outdated.

I wouldn't worry about the motherboards, I'd worry more about the price of DDR4

That's going to repeatedly kick you in the nuts, over and over.

Wait, why is DDR4 gonna be super expensive?

It's new, limited supply, especially with a factory that burned to the ground.

Edit: Not to mention the research costs to be covered, people are forced to buy your ram and competition will not be as much at first.

Well, another of the rumors is that most G1 X99 boards will support both DDR3 and DDR4. I heard that one on the WAN show I think, I don't remember where they heard it from though.

When the 15-core Xeons become what the i3 is now, we MIGHT get a standard 6-core i7 desktop processor.

If you are talking about that Hynix fire it didn't burn it to the ground, just really messed up the ventilation and filtration systems. The clean rooms themselves were fine.

I'm more interested in when the standard software release will make full use of multi-threading. CPU advancement is boring since it still follows Moore's law.
