Google is a Bigger Threat to Net Neutrality Than Comcast

#1SampsonMPosted 2/19/2014 1:07:22 PM
I'm more concerned about Google expanding fiber everywhere than I am Comcast merging Time Warner.

The truth is, Google could do far more damage.

Imagine them throttling bing, yahoo, dailymotion or any youtube competitor.

Comcast has 300 GB monthly caps on 100 Mbps internet... they can f*** right off.

That's in very few geos. Most geos are uncapped.

As for the OP, I'm excited for Fiber as I'm on their hotlist being in Portland. Who hoo! They can throttle all they like if they come shake up the ISP market here which is Comcast...and....Comcast.

The hard decision...5Mbps for FREE or 1Gbps for $70 a month. Saving $600 a year is significant...even if it means slower downloads. 5Mbps is the requirement for HD Netflix...do I really want to pay for more than that?

I expected to see an article with some actual points after that title. 0/10 disappointed.

Google may be evil, but all other ISPs are the devil himself. I'll root for the lesser evil.

So instead of 1 Gbit service, they might throttle it down to like 300 Mbit? I'd be OK with that, considering my max speed now is like 15-20 Mbit...

You mean google COULD be bad, while Comcast already IS bad for net neutrality.

Comcast actually doesn't have a cap, but their service is terrible.

Comcast has a 250gb cap that for whatever reason hasn't been enforced for about a year now. So yeah, technically uncapped, but I wouldn't rely on it to remain so.
