I've had windows 7 for a while now, but I'm going to get a new PC soon and I've been wondering which is the overall better OS, especially for gaming. Thanks for any answers in advance.

Not everyone with a difference of opinion or that has criticisms is a troll.

If it's for gaming you might as well get 8.1 IMO. Now that consoles support DX 11.2, expect a lot of PC games in the future to be based off DX 11.2, which Windows 7 doesn't support...

LOL, isnt it pretty much common knowledge now that if you have windows 7 you probably dont need to upgrade to windows 8.1 right now... but if you are starting a new build from scratch you may as well go with windows 8.1?

If I was doing a new build I wouldn't go with 8

If you can still use your old Windows 7, then stick with that. Don't bother spending another $90 for an operating system that won't really do anything for you over your previous.

Wouldn't go out of my way to get 8.1 at full price if I had 7 handy, but there's no way I'd pay full price for 7 over 8.1 if I was doing a completely new build.

If you can get Windows 8 cheap ($20ish), don't feel bad getting it just to try it out.
If you don't own a copy of Windows 7 or 8 for your new build, get Windows 8.
If you already own a copy of Windows 7 and it's not going to be used for anything else, and you can't find a copy of W8 super cheap, then just keep Windows 7.

Windows 8 is a minor upgrade in a lot of ways, and a minor downgrade in a few ways. It's not worth spending a lot of money on it if you already have the previous version, unless you have cash to burn.
