Is it worth getting into the Mass Effect series?

It's a decent RPG series but the ending really drags everything else down.

Your bad.

That is a red herring. The fact is, the AI was atrocious in ME1.

re: Story

In ME2 and 3 yes. ME1 had some promise and Bioware showed a lot of improvement when compared to KOTOR, a game that is the most similar to ME1.(There's even some reused objects)

There was only one story: evil demon machines are coming to destroy us. It was shown in three parts.

Part 1: Introduction of demon machines and their intent to kill us all

Part 2: Pointless meandering

Part 3: Pathetic resolution of evil demon machine invasion.

So..what part of this plot line was so good or "showed promise", exactly?

There is no evil path in Mass Effect, it's more like you're a stern leader that doesn't back down or a hardass military man/woman that gets straight to the point and doesn't screw around. It's not a perfect series but it is a really cool new sci-fi universe.

I don't know, there are some real douchebag options out there, like BSG Admiral Cain level "wtf are you doing super renegade" like Samara's loyalty mission on renegade >.>

ME3 renegade is on a whole new level of evil compared to ME1/2 renegade. Could never bring myself to to that run in 3, but loved doing it in the first two.

Yeah, my renegade character ended up sort of gray because of that, and they were 100% renegade straight through the first two >_>

let's not get into a pissing match about whether the game is amazing or not...

op was a simple question: is it worth getting?

the short answer is an undeniable yes

look pretty much anywhere on the internet and you will read better written things than you will here on gfaqs. these people are hardstyle killers man, but their opinions are usually garbage because 90% of the people here are only here to express their crass, brutish opinions.

Ending is terrible in the last one, but luckily there's a mod fixing it now (Not the extended cut either). So yes. Don't bother doing side quests in 1 though because they are extremely repetitve. Two is nothing short of amazing.

And the AI was bad throughout. The latter games just made the squad less important and with access to way fewer powers. Managing the positions to me was the same for every game except for disappearing/reappearing act that would occur.

Them shooting you in your back can happen in every game. Denoting that it is especially atrocious in the first game sounds like you are especially bad at the first game.

That's the plot...
Each game has it's own story and place in the overall plot.

Any and all parts that involved Saren. The first game, to me, left open the possibility of there being a grey area for the Reaper's plan or them being right. The ME2 turned their plan from a systematic one to being more about revenge and locking them into the standard evil villain mold.
