The most recent one I can think of is Rising Storm. I've never played it but it has decent reviews.
Commandos 2 is a good WWII, RTT game, if you're into that. It's probably really cheap on Steam right now.

Also, Battlefield 1942 is free, and so is Hidden and Dangerous Deluxe.

Hidden & Dangerous 2 is not free, but it is one of the best games of all time.

Thanks for the list guys I've got a lot if reading to get through now and make some decisions! I think I will give call of duty 2 a go for sure I'll have to read some reviews on others as I have never heard of them. Isn't battlefield 1942 a really old game I seem to remember playing that like 10 years a go as I was obsessed with flying the planes or am I mistaken for something else?

Ignore everything else I said and just get this. I can't believe it slipped my mind. Sniper and Velvet Assasin are okay and in some ways have better stealth, but Saboteur is one of the best open world games I've played, and is without a doubt the best ww2 game i've ever played.

Also if you like srpgs, Operation Darkness is set in ww2 and you play as a band of English werewolves with Herbert West and a fire witch taking on Nazi vampires.

There's a WWI multiplayer game on Steam called Verdun. It's still in early access and I haven't actually played it myself, but it looks interesting.

I loved world at war when I had my console but sadly for me anyway it was the last call of duty even worth of a mention they are all the same now! Which makes me a bit hesitant to try the earlier cods are they any different to the recent ones? The earliest I have play was cod4 mondern warfare. Are there any third person shooters out there ? I heard company of hero's was good can anyone shed any light on this?

COD:WAW on PC is a completely different game to COD:WAW on consoles. It has full mod support (for SP and MP) and map support, and the stuff the community has done with that is really impressive.
