Outside of emulators is there much of anything out there? Don't care if its indies, anything is fine.

FF7/8. Other than that, you don't have much sadly.

That's why most PC gamers have a DS/3DS, just to play JRPG's when they get the itch.

Damn it.. I swear I had something for this..

There's The Last Remnant which is a definite hit-or-miss game with a hefty learning curve.

Other than that though, really not much. Trails in the Sky should be launching on Steam soon-ish and that'd probably fit your criteria.

With the caveat that I've never actually played it to verify, I've heard that Septerra Core is supposed to be a western take on the jrpg style.

Older game, but I hear its good.

If you don't mind slightly western-ish style, there is Jagged Alliance 2. Pretty old game, but the fans has been upgrading the gameplay (unfortunately not the graphics, yet). Just upgrade it with the 1.13 fanmade 'patch'.

We have turn based strategy games.

You can spend $400 on a console and $400 on a cheap PC, or you can spend $800 to build your own and have the best of both worlds.

That's not really a console style rpg tbh. It is, however, a effing awesome game!

I recommend the King's Bounty series (The Legend, Armored Princess etc.). The combat system is turn based, and I've found them to be very addictive.

I'm currently on with King's Bounty: Warriors of the North.

A lot available from steam. Zeboyd's line of games. Cosmic Star Heroine will come soon. Recettear I think. Trails in the Sky is considered to be one of the modern greats and it's supposed to show up on Steam soon.

Those are off the top of my head. I don't really pay attention, but just pointing out there are a lot of options.
