Webcam light is on...but I haven't enabled it. Should I be concerned?

#1SxmfctPosted 2/24/2014 12:46:42 AM
I've heard stories about webcams being hacked and people being able to watch you remotely

If this is the case how could I find out/stop it? The light should only ever come on if I'm using the cam but there's nothing open on my computer that would cause it right now

Help? I'm a tad paranoid. I don't want people I don't know watching me

Is it over Skype? A few times I've gone to change my profile picture and by default it gives you an option to take a picture of yourself using your webcam. Problem is that you can tab away and if you're a flake like me, it's easy to forget you've left it open.

You'll just have to undress in front of it to find out

While you're unsure about what caused the light to be on, you may consider taping a piece of paper in front of your cam, at least no software will be able to use the data...

Make sure it's duct tape though, otherwise they can still see.

You can spend $400 on a console and $400 on a cheap PC, or you can spend $800 to build your own and have the best of both worlds.

I just unplugged the webcam

But now what? Ad/virus scan maybe? Would it be better to use safe mode to do the scan?
