Q6600 to 4670k platform upgrade

#1ff8ff8Posted 2/25/2014 12:04:03 AM
So after finding out that Staples will pricematch Microcenter online, even if you're not near a microcenter I've decided to finally upgrade my Q6600.
But I've been mostly out of the loop since 2009, could use some RAM and motherboard opinions.

I'll be getting this via staples, should have done it a month ago when they pricematched, and had the $30 coupon:

I also found this MIS z87 mpower mobo on craigslist for $120:

Worth the grab?

Any ideas on RAM? Worth grabbing 8gig of corsair vengeance off of ebay for $45ish?

So the last vid card i asked about was crap. Is this better? -chia

I don't have much to add other than it is gonna be a huge upgrade. I went from a Q6600 to a 4770K in June and it was a huge difference.

Ram is basically ram IMO, $45 isnt a bad deal, since youll pay double brand new unless theres a sale.

Looks like a nice mobo for sure, so as long as theres no issues buying used you should be good.

I wouldn't purchase a motherboard from craigslist, but that's just me.

You can spend $400 on a console and $400 on a cheap PC, or you can spend $800 to build your own and have the best of both worlds.

I don't know where you shop for RAM buts that's really expensive for 8GB of RAM. You can find 8GB of RAM from 65-75 bucks on average. Anything more than that is pretty high.

well the guy with the mpower is a bit far away. So, mobo suggestions for the 100-120 mark?

Well Microcenter ships the msi g41 for $90, then has a $15 rebate with it.
