Its happened twice now. Happened a couple days ago and brushed it off as a fluke. But happened again about an hour ago.

I've ruled out it being a virus,OS, or any software issue. I'm thinking my PSU could be going bad (or not enough watts?). I did add a usb 3.0 pci card 2 months ago. PC was rock solid for 2 months so I'm not sure thats the problem.

Only thing I know for sure is its a hardware problem and this wont be going away until somethings replaced.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing the random restarts? Oddly enough both times it happened I was briefly away from the PC and havent actually witnessed the PC restarted. I just come back and I'm "greeted" by my login screen. Also the PC was idle with nothing running both times it happened.

450w corsair. but only have a lightweight gpu.

usb 3.0 pci card is the only thing ive changed about the computer recently and that was 2 months ago and havent had an issue until sunday.

Maybe when it happens a 3rd time I'll be on my computer and I'll have some insight why it restarted.

nope. Im 99% sure its not software related.

it just happened again for the 3rd time... this time I was using the PC when it happened! and I have some new info to share...

my PC is completely locking up!! I dont mean sluggish or at high load. I mean my cursor and clock are completely static. Its a complete freeze of my machine with no responsiveness (no hdd activity on indicator lights either). After about 10mins the computer restarts itself. What does this mean!? Its happening more frequently and Im running out of time.

Sounds like a virus, failing HDD, or failing GPU to me.

Check your hard drives with a SMART reader, check your temperatures, check the event logs and see if there's anything reported there that might give you a clue...
http://hddscan.com/

Get that and run the SMART report for all your drives and see if something is failing.

If it only happens when you're placing the PC under load, then it could be a wattage issue, but then the PC wouldn't restart, it would just shut down abruptly.
