What new PC parts are coming out soon that one should wait for if building a PC?

Wow. My first true 80/80.

My cousin wants to build a machine. Are there some key parts that are coming soon that I should just tell him to wait for?

The only thing I can think of is Geforce 800 series. Nvidia hasn't really set a date yet so I can't suggest waiting for it since it could be a while off yet.

New parts coming?

- Haswell Refresh - probably later this year, though the K variants will come later
- Geforce 800 series - no release date yet, probably late this year or next year
- GTX 790 and R9 290X X2 ??
- DDR4 RAM - Though only on X99 chipset, Z97 will still be using DDR3

Just came out
- GTX 750 and 750ti - entry level GPU
- R9 280 - just a 7950 rebrand
- GTX Titan Black Edition

What's 80/80?

Anyway, you have Maxwell GPUs right around the corner, so wait for those at least. DDR4 will be out this year as well, but will definitely be way too expensive for the first couple of years.

Max characters for a topic title is 80.

[80/80] is used to signify that you used all 80 characters, typically without resorting to odd punctuation of 'filler'.

Current trends are towards lower power consumption, if that interests you then wait.

At the minute GPU prices are a little higher than normal although more on the AMD side due to the cryptocurrency craze so if you have some bizarre fetish that needs an AMD card then wait.
