New to PC gamig, how can I find out why Fallout 3 keeps freezing on me?

Crashing/Freezing on Multi-Core Processors

If you are experiencing this issue, please exit the game and Steam in order to complete the following:

Navigate to the following default location:

C:\Users\[username]\Documents\my games\Fallout 3

Open the fallout.ini file using notepad or a similar text editing program.

Use control+f to locate and delete the following line:


Scroll to the bottom of the page and add the following two lines:



Save the file keeping the .ini extension and relaunch the game.

I believe you have to modify a value in the configuration file to force the game to only use two cores - that fixed the issue (on Windows 7) for me.

Thanks mates! You guys are awesome! I am now able to play more then 5 minutes without a freeze!

Going on almost an hour now.

Heh, still new to all this mumbo jumbo PC-gaming-jargon. Don't know files, and editing and all that. Hell I only use Mods that I can install right away with a mod manager like Nexus. Not ones I have to install manually as I have no idea how.
