Computers start at $400 and go to $2000 and higher, so why would you think you can get a gaming computer by buying someone bottom of the barrel? At that price, it's almost all the same low end crap.

The computer I linked him can and will play games at medium-very high settings (some older at max), max settings aren't required to make a game look amazing. My computer is an i3-2100, 6gb, gtx 660 @ 1080p and am very pleased with it for the price.

I didn't know anything about building computers either but still managed to do it withouth breaking anything. It's not hard, no reason to buy pre-built.

I agree, I had the same worries before but seeing my brother put his together, it's real simple as long as you have all the right parts.

Yeah, they're pretty much like Legos. But we can't and shouldn't force the TC to build himself if he really doesn't want to, I was just saying it's easy.

"my family owes me a birthday gift from a few months ago"

They don't owe you anything. Be glad they provide you food and shelter. You're the one that owes them.

It's not like he's breaking his bank. His parents owe him a birthday present. They owe him.

Not just my parents, my 4 brothers and 5 aunt/uncles. Noone even said happy birthday til 2 days later :(

Besides I'm putting $250 of my own into this

The friend that i mentioned also told me that just building a computer is pretty easy for the most part but I have an extreme lack of faith in myself lol

Thanks for the help and the judging guys, Both are helping lol

If you don't want to build and are on a budget, this would be my recommendation:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-H520-Desktop-PC-Computer-i3-3240-6GB-1TB-WiFi-HDMI-Win-8-Warranty-/221380822301?pt=Desktop_PCs&hash=item338b53451d

Then pick up a power supply and video card. I might suggest a gtx 660 to go along with that, make sure the power supply isn't a crappy one either, going to have to do some research on them.
That's actually not a bad machine once you add a graphics card. Do this, TC.
