When you steam share you keep your own saves and achievements. This is useful for games that don't differentiate this. It's also nice to give back to your friends if you have a sizable library of games.

Couldn't we always do this? I used to let my friends log into my Steam account all the time when I wasn't using it. Or is this on a per game basis level now? Cause if so that's pretty awesome.

It's basically this, but you don't have to give them your info-- you just log in on their computer to link your accounts. Also, it has the advantage of you retaining the control-- they can't kick you out of your game, but you can kick them out when you want to play. It also means they can't, for example, get you VAC banned by cheating while in one of your games.

Only one person can be using a single account's game at a time, but it lets them "borrow" your games when you're not playing them.
Ok, so it is on a per game basis, then? Being able to kick them off is pretty cool too. I got tired of having to call my cousin whenever I wanted to play.

No, 1 person can use 1 library at a time, whether it be yours or someone else's. This also means if someone is using your library you can just use someone else's library as well without kicking the person off his game.

All my friends are pretty happy bout this. I get to share my library with them, and I think I have one of the biggest Steam collections here.

It's not piracy if the publishers support it, fools

Valve encourages users to be cautious about whom they share their library with, as guests who use a shared library to cheat or commit fraud may have the library owner's sharing privileges revoked and account VAC banned.

So the only difference now is that I have complete power to kick someone off.

Account sharing isn't really allowed in the ToS( not that it is enforced). also, saves are separated. You used to be able to play any shared games in offline mode with no restrictions, but they got rid of that exploit.

So can you only authorize someone else's computer if you're actually there?
