Do you guys think this has any relevance to the high prices of RAM?

Edit: Old article, I read this one (link below) first but went to find one with more info (didn't look at date)

That's an old article regarding events even further back, but maybe the same practices occur today. Although the initial cause of the spike in prices was a fire in a factory where a lot of RAM is produced; it just never recovered. It's ridiculous - I just checked the price on the kit of RAM I bought when I built my desktop in December of 2011 and the price now is 2.175 times what I paid for it.

does this mean the price of DD3 will finally drop? i wanted to get 4 more gigs of ram just for the sake of future memory just to have, but i didn't want to buy them at the price they are right now. close to $40 for 4 gigs.

It's worth keeping in mind that when a small number of companies or people are the major providers of a good or service there will always be price fixing.

It's true. RAM prices are ridiculous now. I built my computer in Dec 2012, and I literally spent half as much on identical RAM priced today.

Ditto. One of my plans when I got my job over the holidays was to upgrade my desktop from an i3 with 4 gigs to an i7 with 8, but with how prices have gone up that was just not an option.

There was a factory fire at a ram plant right? That factory made like 15% of the worlds ram supply. Quite a few people posted about it here on gamefaqs. But I dont know how legit it is.

A case from 2007? What is even the point of this topic?

The reason why RAM is expensive now is because demand has increased disproportionately, relative to the supply, due to the tablet and smartphone markets.

Sweet, where's my cut? I could really use that $0.11 right now. My car ran out of gas 27 feet from home.
