So over the past night, I've noticed that these apps are hogging up some of my RAM. Adding up to a surprising amount. Apparently, I don't officially close them. I thought going to the top left area of your desktop>right clicking >close would shut them off (or something, but I guess not; because they're still running in processes). The only way I know how to shut them down for good is by way of end task. I'm somewhat still new to 8.1 so is there are proper way to managing these apps?

You really shouldn't worry about it.

Windows 8 and 8.1 are very good about managing memory. So if you have something resource intensive running there won't be a problem.

Ideally you leave them running and the OS handles memory as it needs it. All modern operating systems work this way, especially on mobile.

Alt +F4 to kill it entirely.

Additionally, if you move the mouse cursor to the top of the screen, click and hold, drag the app to the bottom of the screen and hold until the app preview flips and shows the app tile and then let go, it will shut the app down.

Why would I make it harder for me to access things?
