As long as your 'weak' consoles use AMD, they won't die

what is brd and mnk?

BRD = Bard

MNK = Monk

I know because I wasted many years playing FFXI. Yes, I know he is referring to FFXIV, but it still means the same.

AMD can't be anywhere near finished when they own the console market and are putting out video cards that match up to Nvidia for a fraction of the price.

Admittedly, I'd never touch their processors, but their GPUs are great.

Someone hasn't been following the prices lately. AMD is way more expensive than Nvidia right now.

To the folks saying AMD has a stronghold in consoles, who cares?

They're selling them by the bulk and Intel wasn't interested in a bidding war with them. In the end AMD gets to supply the CPU and GPU for all 3 consoles, they've must gotten desperate to give them a low number.

Nothing will change, AMD will remain inferior in CPU single threads and GPU Drivers.

Or it's so simple that AMD was the only one that could provide what they wanted. Nvidia could have provided a GPU, but no CPU. Intel could have provided a CPU, but a slow GPU.

NVidia burned several bridges with Sony and Microsoft. As much as I like their GPUs, the way they handled their business with the PS3 and Xbox 360 left a sour taste on the console manufacture's mouths. Doubt you're interested in the backstory, but with that kind of bad relationship AMD didn't have to try hard to get the deals.

In any case it doesn't change the reality that AMD's garbage tier processor won't save them from being further crippled in the desktop PC world. Off top of my head their Bulldozer line has been a massive failure and forced out their CEO 2 years ago.

NVIDIA didn't want the console contract, it's very low profit margin.

NVIDIA is focusing on PC gaming and Android gaming, which is going to be a lot bigger than people think and could ultimately destroy traditional consoles (I know this is hearsay, but remember this post five years from now).

Nvidia's efforts with Tegra 4 have been miserable. Only a handful of OEMs are picking it up, and not even the big names in the tablet market, like Samsung or ASUS. What, the Surface 2 from MS? No one wants that.
