CS and TF2. The competitive part pretty much eliminates any large scale game like BF right off the bat.

Halo 2/3
Battlefield 2

Lolwot

Battlefield 2 was everything you DON'T want from a competitive game. This is literally ludicrous.

I wouldn't go as far as saying BF was everything you don't want in a competitive shooter, as the series does quite a lot of things right. The main barrier is coordinating events of the proper scale and maintaining teams. It *could* be done if people were sufficiently motivated just like 40 man raiding used to be done in WoW. It's just that the reality is that it isn't done in any real sense.

I've got the same general issue with including old school arena shooters too. Yeah, they were the top of the food chain back in the day for good reason. The question is how big is the competitive scene right now in 2014?

CS has a HUGE competitive scene. BF4 has a really small comp scene, and I've watched a few tournaments, but overall I've found it pretty crappy to watch and play.

And contains almost all the competitive players from 1.6 and source.

Just saying it's really strange to reply to a post talking about the age of games with an example that's a game that's two years old.
