Recording with the elgato HD question *USB length*

#1super hotshot bowserPosted 3/8/2014 2:57:52 PM
My PC is on the other side of the room, now this room isn't massive but I do need a few more inches at least between my desktop and my game capture. I already have a few HDMI cords and I really wouldn't want to buy a few more to make the elgato reach. The elgato's mini 2.0 USB that comes with it is nearly 6'4'', maybe 6'5''. So what should I do, buy a 2.0 USB extender, buy a longer mini 2.0 USB cord, or get all new HDMI cables?

Also can I get some recommendations for 2.0 USB cables/extenders?

Probably cheaper to buy a long active usb extension.

The maximum distance for USB cables with USB 2.0 devices is 16 feet. You shouldn't go farther than that or you may experience signal loss problems. If you need to go further than that then longer HDMI cables would be better.

Thanks. The cable extender I ordered was 6ft and the cable I have now (the one that came with it) is 6ft, probably a bit more (6'5'' max since it's taller than me and I'm 6'0'') putting that at around 12'5'', hopefully this won't bork up the signal, but since the max is about 16 it shouldn't.
