BD drive should be the standard.

Pretty much the only thing my ODD get used for is ripping music CDs. I'm pretty sure I use it more than many people here.

Optical drives are optional these days for PC users.

Even DVD installs are a lot faster than downloading and install a 5GB+ game.

I put a BD in my last computer I built at the end of 2012. Still haven't used it, lol.

The only thing I still use an optical station for is ripping audio CDs. For video content I use Netflix. Don't know why I would need a blu-ray drive.

A lot of people just need an optical drive to install their operating system. No sense in paying 2-3 times the price for something they'll rarely/never use again.

I still get a lot of use out of my DVD drive. Old game installs, CD rips/compilations, creatng DVDs, and I'll probably re-install W7 at some point. Well worth the 12 it cost.

Don't need a Blu-ray drive, though.

I watch movies on my treadmill in here, so having a BD-drive is nice.

I also have a CD player in my car that reads mp3, so it's nice to be able to burn discs for driving around.

The main reason why PC gamers don't buy BD opticals is because not only they are expensive by themselves, they are also of no use without BD reader programs which you also need to pay for. Moreover, most game physical copy still comes in DVD. The only thing that comes in BD are those movies. Unless you are planning to watch BD movies on your PC, no reason to get it.

I still need the optical drive to rip CDs for my ipod and for certain softwares that requires physical installation.
