PC version of Thief 4 was universally considered better than the console version

80/80

Is this a new trend in game development?

We all know that currently the gaming platforms with the larger install base are PC and mobile (iOS/Android). There's been rumors for some time about development focus shifting from consoles to PC, because of all the reasons (bigger user base, self-publishing is always an option for devs, digital distribution-only is well accepted by everyone, flexible pricing and backwards compatibility allow for a longer product shelf live and more lucrative legacy sales, etc.).

Does Thief 4 represent the realization of this new trend in game development?

They actually put effort into PC specific features. It's a shame the game itself is pretty bad.

Devs are still primarily responsible for their priority. Maybe Nixxes (PC port team) is just better, but there is no stopping the devs them from hiring crap teams for PC porting.

How is this a new trend? Maybe 1 out of 100 PC ports will not be the best version. Considering there are almost no console games that actually run at 1080p, let alone 1440+.

You can spend $400 on a console and $400 on a cheap PC, or you can spend $800 to build your own and have the best of both worlds.

PC gaming is having a resurgence in popularity. Its just a lot more affordable then it used to be. I kinda fee like around the time 550ti's hit, throw in an i5 and you got a smoking machine. If you wanted a beast machine, just get a 560 or 570 whatever they had at the time. Its still that way. You can get some real nice gaming with a affordable 650 or 750 still. Spend a tad more and get gtx 760 and you can max almost anything at 1080p currently.

I mean a lol gtx 750 is already more powerful graphics card then a xbox one or ps4. Supper afforadable and no psu swapping needed. Toss in insanely more powerful cpu's and its just a joke. Consoles are horrible this time around compared to a pc.

Plus the games are so much cheaper, you got great services like steam, gog, gmg, etc.

Oh and if something in the pc breaks, you can often fix it yourself no RROD type rubbish where your machine is bricked.

Its going to be digusting how much more powerful pc's are in another year when the Gtx 8 series of gaphics cards are out with the 9 series on the horizon.

This

PC port being better is far from a special occurrence.

Nixxes is known for putting out good stuff, especially with Square Enix titles. They worked on the PC versions of DX:HR and the original Tomb Raider release (not to mention they also did the Xbone/PS4 re-release), and both versions were considered vastly superior to their console counterparts.

You can't max most games with a 760 in 1080p...that's a bit misleading. A 770 maxes most games in 1080p.

I happily disagree. I think a gtx 760 could probably max like 75% of the games, gtx 770 is like 95% and gtx 780 and 99% at 1080p
