I am not sure EXACTLY what you are looking for, but Dark Souls has third person combat and some exploration. Isn't nearly as "RPG" as Skyrim though.

You can spend $400 on a console and $400 on a cheap PC, or you can spend $800 to build your own and have the best of both worlds.

Gothic, Gothic II, Gothic III (with community patch), Gothic II, Risen, Gothic II, Gothic II, and Gothic II.

These are absolute musts.

Gothic 2 with Night of the Raven, ftw

Is Divinity 2 any good?

Divinity 2 is great (the updated version bundled with the rather weak sequel). It's got some humorous/witty dialogue, decent combat--just don't go into it with giant expectations and you should have a lot of fun.

Two Worlds 2 is awful. The first game was bad but almost in a so-bad-it's-good sort of way. Not so for the sequel.

Two Worlds 2 is awful.
Imagine a giant open world that has nothing in it, and there you go.

Gothic 3 is frustrating. On the one hand, the lack of load times and the world itself is so reactive to the player it's amazing.
The combat is a mess. Wolf>master swordsman<the player.
Quick attacks stun lock everything.

Are you looking for something with comparable combat mechanics and looks?
Or are you looking for something with open world gameplay?

Obviously all other Elder Scrolls games are an option. If it is the gameplay you are after, maybe a game like Dishonored is something you would enjoy.

I think the closest bet TC has, as some here already have mentioned, is Gothic II.

Graphics wise it's not on par with Skyrim (but who plays for graphics anyway). It's definitely a big rival of TES but Piranha bytes basically ruined the series after II (III was good but not better than II).

It was developed by a German company so it's mostly in German when you look it up on youtube. There's also an English option in-game btw.

Here's a LP of a Swiss guy who speaks English and plays the game in English (since most Americans are douchebags and don't attempt to learn German, just joking :P):
