By "sim" do you mean only the absolute most realistic game or the best combination of realism and car/track/etc selection.

That's come out this year so far? nothing really I'd say Next car game but its not a racing sim.

I have a feeling though Project Cars could be the game that takes it if it comes out this year with out any delays.

NR2003 still blows almost every racing sim out of the water to this day. I haven't played the game on nearly a year, but the organized private racing leagues are some of the best competitive sim racing you'll have. Much more exciting than the likes of iRacing. iRacing is continuing to get better, but it is constantly marred by tire model problems that should have been fixed years ago. Unfortunately a lot of players have given it the to little, to late treatment. I mean the new chassis for indycars are going on their 3rd season. It's one of the most popular divisions to drive and players are still stuck with the old chassis.

rFactor 2

It required a ton of tweaking to get it to feel and look right, but DAMN was it worth it.

By far, it has the most complex and realistic suspension physics I've ever felt.

iRacing for online play, Rfactor2, Assetto Corsa. Can't pick a definite between them.
