Steam - Windows 7 or Windows 8

#1mkhomeroPosted 3/16/2014 10:40:10 PM
Good day y'all! I'm heavily considering getting into PC gaming. Years ago I had a laptop and played Steam on it and had an incredibly good experience. I'm considering getting into Steam again. I would like to know if Windows 7 or 8 is preferred for a great Steam playing experience.

Any and all opinions would be welcomed. Thank you all in advance for your responses.

Either one probably works just fine. Pick whichever OS you're more comfortable with though everyone else will tell you that there's no reason to not get Windows 8 (if you don't already have 7).

You played Steam? Did you beat level 4?

Windows 8 is superior in every way possible. Newer Direct X, faster boots, overall faster OS, more energy efficient.

You can spend $400 on a console and $400 on a cheap PC, or you can spend $800 to build your own and have the best of both worlds.

If this is an inside joke I'm not aware of it. Not sure how this pertains to my question but thanks for the response.

You forgot the one negative: Windows 8 hates older games' guts. Seriously, the number of forum topics I've seen with names like "help! Game doesn't work on W8" and within they mention that W7 ran the game just fine is astonishing for an OS that supposedly is Better in every way. How is crappier compatibility better in every way?

Tbh, I'll only install Windows 8 if someone gets off their ass and develops better old-school compatibility layers than what W8 currently offers. I have too many old-as-hell games to switch to an OS with inferior compatibility.

This. For the few older titles that don't work on 8 there is always a fix.
