Do you name your computers?

I'm just curious. Waiting for software to install on my new baby and pondering what to name her.

She's so sleek and fast, and a lot less gaudy than my older system (which was built in my "wow LEDs are AWESOME!" era.)

Mine is called WinPC7, why, because before I updated it it was a Windows 7 machine, now it has Windows 8, I suppose I should change that to reflect it.

Name her Mother, like in the Alien movies.

Wait, that might be awkward.

For networking purposes, yes.

This. Otherwise, no. Why you would name an inanimate object is beyond me, unless it's a ship or something

All my devices are named using this pattern:
<3-letter common prefix><3-letter purpose identifier><2-digit number>

I use colors these days. Why? because it's nonspecific enough not to present a security risk and there's a metric ton of them.

For networking purposes, of course. Their names are boring, though. For example, this laptop I'm on right now is named ZACH-ASUS, my old laptop was ZACH-LAPTOP-2010 and my desktop is named RED917 (it was BLUE917 before I upgraded most of its parts).

I don't give names to inanimate objects unless there's a purpose (networking in this case) and so besides doing network-related things, I don't use the names for anything.
Sigs are overrated. Seriously.
