...will be using it for virtual sex software and other perverted applications, once it goes retail?

*Slowly raises hand*

But that's a moot point. You may as well say 90% of people buy a PC or DVD player to use it for porn and perverted purposes. While that's true (and low-balling by a *very* large margin) it doesn't mean they won't be doing other things with it, as well. The wonderful thing about PCs and their peripherals is their multifunctionality.

Also, if wagglin' bullcrap motion controls can stick around as long as they have, I have no doubt there could be a mainstream market for good VR. The issue, of course, is with the cost. It might be a gen or two before the cost can come down enough for it to become a mainstream console peripheral but it's likely to happen eventually.

I would use a VR set if it wasn't bulking and strapped to my head. If it was like goggles or sunglasses I'd be there.

Also, if you CAN use it for VR sex, why not? That would be kind of awesome. Any of those anime girls you like? I don't, but I know a lot of people here fantasize about that.

Japan's birth rates will hit the floor. Come to think of it, a lot of places' birth rates will hit the floor with this. Why bother with a real woman when you can have a waifu?

VR headsets aren't something that's seen as a "necessity" though, and PCs can be used for productive purposes. I just have the feeling that there are tons of overweight, unmarried, middle-aged guys with little or no interest in gaming who are waiting to pounce on this thing, solely because of the virtual sex applications.

It's not that I care about it going mainstream, it's just that these devs keep yammering on about how VR is going to "change the world." Didn't happen in the nineties, won't happen now.

Yes, because absolutely nothing in the world of tech has changed since the 90's *sarcasm*

The general consumer's perception of VR tech really hasn't changed at all, though. Old memories of shooting blocky pterodactyls with bullets that arc like rocks die hard. It's going to be very hard to change that.

Oh, hey, don't stop there. You left out some other pointless stereotypes like "sweaty" and " basement-dwelling", among others. Let's be as immature as possible and pretend adults in healthy relationships have no interest in erotic entertainment.

Spoilers: They do. Porn is the biggest entertainment industry around. Porn actually forges the direction of entertainment mediums sometimes. If you look up VHS vs Betamax (I know that's way before your time. Get to Wiki'ing), VHS won out the format war even though Betamax was a superior format. Why? The main reason was because porn was released on VHS.

Also, video games aren't a necessity. Dunno who told you they were.
