I feel that the Steam Controller is a bad move.

For the sake of this poll, pretend that the controller as we know it now is a final product.

The above picture is what we're being shown on the Steam page. Touch screen all that jazz, it's what was initially unveiled to us.

The below picture is of Prototype 2. No touch screen. now has face buttons. Looks to me to be an inferior xbox like controller, with no analog sticks... and a funky d-pad.

No point in judging anything before it's buyable, though the touchpads are a turnoff

The button placement on the original design was terrible. Glad they fixed that. Now all they need to do is implement a proper D-Pad and I'll be happy.

I think that the touch pads might work out for PC.

That's what I perceive. From my perspective, without any experiencing handling the controller, is that it seems like it'll be more accurate, which is key for FPS, and a much smoother alternative to an analog.

But I could be wrong.

As it stands, I'd favor the more conventional current design over the gimmicks of the first prototype. I don't know that I'd prefer either over an even more conventional PS/Xbox controller though. The one nice thing is you can be fairly certain it'll play nice with *nix.

Anyone know the price point?

If it's the standard $50, I honestly can't wait to try it out. I can just look at the pics and already see that it's better than Sony's controller so that's more than enough for me to buy.

Still think the horizontally aligned sticks is a terrible idea.

I still feel like the controller literally has no purpose. I felt the same before, this changes nothing.

Valve shouldn't have nothing to do with peripherals. I was against them wasting any time on their stupid OS, what do you think I think of their controller...

You seem to not like anything that a company does to advance itself in the industry. I think for that your opinions are laughable at best.

Logical fallacies, thanks for playing.

For myself, I don't care. I don't even like Valve. All I like is HL, and they have pretty much screwed that.

The controller...well, impossible to say. I imagine it would take some getting used to. They say it's not as accurate as a K+M but more accurate than current controllers. This makes me wonder what the point is. Console shooters use auto-aim, and if you're not going to make something on par with K+M, why bother?

Of course, combined with the Steambox, they are trying to push into the console market. So of course they need a controller. Meanwhile, consoles are not what they used to be in popularity and power. It all seems a bit backwards, to me. They should be throwing their money into making PCs stupidly easy to build and upgrade, something like Razer showed off last month, or whenever it was.
