1080P IPS or 1440P non-ips

Would you personally speaking rather get an IPS monitor at 1080P or a non IPS monitor at 1440p?

Uhh, depends on the monitors/PC specs/etc...

For example, my S-PVA monitor probably blows a lot of cheaper IPS out of the water.

I have a Korean 1440p monitor and it's awesome. A steal for around $300. Can tweak it to run at 120hz, but I really can't run a game not only at a higher res but 120 fps, way too hard unless I spend big $$$.

You can spend $400 on a console and $400 on a cheap PC, or you can spend $800 to build your own and have the best of both worlds.

I'd rather get a gaming monitor NON IPS at 1080p

I have a Catleap 1440p @ 125hz that I could get at or near max settings between 60-100 FPS with a single GTX 670 for a lot of games, and even recently a single 660 was getting a lot of games I've played above 60 FPS consistently outside of the really demanding games like Crysis 3, BF4, AC4, Witcher 2, etc. but even then it's usually just a couple settings you can adjust to get it running better.

What is ips?

IPS. Colour quality and accurate reproduction are more important to me than a few extra m/s I'll never notice.

Qnix LED Evolution II 1440p overclocked to 120hz over here. I'd recommend this one be cause these are the monitors with the same display as the Apple ThunderboltDisplay, just the ones that haven't met Apple's specifications - still almost Apple quality however.
