Need advice on budget Gaming PC

#1jakeDiLLaPosted 3/25/2014 12:24:02 PM
Considering buying the following:

CPU: AMD Athlon x2 250 3.0GHz c/w CoolerMaster HSF
Motherboard: Asus M4A785-M AM3 mATX Motherboard
Ram: 4GB DDR2 Ram (4x1GB Sticks)
Video: GeForce GT 430
HDD: Seagate 500GB
Optical: LG DVD-RW
Case: Black InWin mATX with Power Supply

for $200

-What's the best video card I could put in there before it gets bottlenecked?
-would upgrading to 8gb RAM be the best upgrade aside from GPU?

bearing in mind that the max resolution I'd be gaming at is 1280x1024 (and more often 1280x720), would it be worth it to buy this as a stop-gap system until I get a better monitor, or are the components listed going to handcuff me for the next crop of games coming out?

Honestly I wouldn't bother, I don't see the point in stock gap systems it's money that could be saved towards the inevitable upgraded system.

the point being it's only $200 and I could probably sell at least a few things that I don't need. Just wondering how long it would last me though, if it gets me til Christmas then its probably worth it for me.

I'd usually advise against going with an outdated mainboard.

If you have to build a low cost system, it's better having a motherboard you can expand on later with current components.

Throw in a 750 Ti for around $100. I wouldn't bother with upgrading the ram or anything else and put that money towards a whole new rig when the time comes.

The 750ti might be overkill, honestly.

I just got offered this:

Intel - Core™ i5 Processor 760 2.8GHz w/ 8MB Cache
Gigabyte - GA-P55A-UD4P w/ Dual DDR3 2200

$140

Could get 4gb ddr3 for $60, so I think that would be a much better deal? I get a mobo that has a little more room to upgrade and less stuff that I don't need

Not sure if that CPU is unlocked for overclocking but anyways, resolution aside, what would be the best GPU i could throw in there before it bottlenecks? Just trying to plan for the future
