Oculus Rift will be designed for marketing to people...some of those people might still be gamers, but it won't be designed just for them though.

My two cents: the Rift needs a whole bunch of early adopters to become something that doesn't fade away within a few years and the guys at Facebook probably know that they won't find these early adopters if they sell the device as an ad-peddling social superconnector right away. For a few years they'll let Palmer Luckey run the show as he pleases and design the Rift for gamers like he always said he would. Only then, when the installed userbase is there, will we start to see ads, Facebook branding and stuff like that.

And we would feel no guilt when the cracks roll in to break the device free of this.

Or maybe we just buy a competing product. If VR catches on then we'll probably see more companies (maybe Nvidia?) trying their luck, not just Sony who aren't bringing Morpheus to PC anyway.

More is certainly better.

It's already pretty much confirmed that Razor is making an OR competitor.
