Best way to access my home computer from work? (restrictions inside)

#1Duken13Posted 3/27/2014 10:00:26 AM
I have Win 7 Home Edition, so I can't use Remote Desktop.
Also, I don't have admin rights to install anything on my work computer, so I'm doubtful this is even possible.

LogMeIn, TeamViewer, and Chrome Remote Desktop are options.

I've never used Chrome Remote Desktop, so I can't speak for that, but both LogMeIn and TeamViewer will require something to be installed (browser plug-in/program) to function, which he won't be able to do without admin privileges.

SSH port forwarding, you can do it with putty which doesn't need to be installed. You can install openssh on windows with Cygwin, or your router might have it.

Edit: install VNC at home.

Pretty sure RealVNC serves connections from a Java app running in your browser.

Seems like there's a VNC solution to what you want to do, but specifics are eluding me atm.

Additionally, do you just want to access your files on your home PC? Or fully take control of it?

I wanna take full control of it, like in Remote Desktop.

From work?
Yeah, I can run any portable program, unless it requires special ports to be open or any other setting not available to me.
