Any good Defender clones out there?

Defender is my favorite arcade game of all time,
I find it hard to believe that it's gone basically ignored.
Has anybody found any good Defender like games?

I've played Mike Potters Protector I, II - great game.
Jeff Minter's Defender 2000, a bit much but I liked the classic mode.
Xbox live version, a bit broken.
Defender & Stargate via emulators, just not the same without the cabinet.

Any good retro pc defender clones that you know of???

Tag.

I don't know of any good clones, but Defender is one of my favourite arcade games (even though I've always been rubbish at it!). Love the sounds it makes. I played it a lot back in the day. I find that the emulated versions of these games are best controlled with a Playstation gamepad (rather than a 360 pad). Just seems to work better.

Btw, my favourite arcade game is Robotron 2084.

Did you ever play the console version of Defender? I had it on GameCube and it was pretty fun, it was made by the same guys who made the arcade game. Nothing amazing but I had a lot of fun with it and it had a documentary on the original Defender that was interesting enough for me to sit through on-disc.

No, but I do still have Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits for PS1. It contains emulated versions of Defender, Stargate, Sinistar, Joust, Bubbles, and Robotron 2084, along with clips of the original programmers/designers talking about their creations. It's the only reason I've hung onto my old PSone console.

Resogun, yep, have it, brilliant game in it's own right, I do see the defender influences and arcade feel there, but it's just a bit south for me to call it a defender clone.
I know they're talking dlc, it'll be interesting to see what they do, I wish there were an option to 'flatten' the world for an old school feel, maybe that'd do it..

Yeah, I've played the classic packs from Midway, I think Digital Eclipse did them across several platforms, definitely fun, but hard as hell with standard controllers.

My favorite is by far Defender 2000 (Jeff Minter) from the Jaguar, I wasn't crazy about the newer versions but I loved the classic mode, it felt and played old school.

The best clone I've seen on the PC is here.....

it's near perfect, unfortunately it's a direct-draw game which plays slow as hell on Windows 8, I tried everything to get it working, no luck.
For those of you running 7 or earlier, it's worth the download!

If anybody knows of anything else, please post.
