Is there a way to disable the Window 8 "tablet" UI?

Like when you click on the windows button on the bottom left and it brings up the sliding tablet UI. Is there a way to disable it so it can just pop up the menu instead of right clicking?

why would you want to? Honestly People... What's so hard about hitting the windows key on your keyboard, typing in the first 3 letters of the program or file you want to open and pressing enter?

It's for my dad actually. He's used to the Vista UI so he usually just presses start then shut down. But then what actually happens in Windows 8 is that the tablet UI comes up and he doesn't know what to do after and he has to call me every single time and I keep telling him what to do but he forgets fast.

click the desktop, press alt-f4

alternatively, right click on the start button and the power options are right there in the context menu

You might want to look up how to add a Shutdown tile to the start menu. Then, he can just open up the start menu and click it like before. And if not already, clean up the start menu by removing unnecessary programs/tiles.

He can also just right click the start button and there is a shut down option there. Not much use if he forgets it instantly but worth a shot.
