GTX 780 temp question

#1CyberZesPosted 3/29/2014 11:24:49 AM
I started playing Batman Arkham Origins and the game runs on high settings and my GPU shows a temp of 81c while playing. The fan profile says 53 percent. I have a Cooler Master Haf 912 case so should I add another fan to reduce the temp? Or is 81 a graphically demanding games?

My 770 maxed Arkham Origins and never went above the low 60s.

What type of case do you have? And fans in the case?

Seems like all the Arkham games are excessively demanding in DX11 mode. Ideally, you'd keep your card below 80 degrees as that's a throttle point (as is 70 but at 70 I think it's only 13 MHz). Another fan isn't likely to help unless you have very poor airflow. What will help is setting up a custom fan profile (or you can just do what I do, I lock my fan at a speed where I'm fine with the noise which is 50% with speakers or 65% with headphones) that's faster than the default.

Other things that can help with temps are adaptive vsync and frame limiters.

How do you create a custom fan profile? I am new to this because I mainly used to play on consoles till I purchased a gaming PC last year. Most games never went up to 75c but this game is the first one going up to 81c.

Download a gpu interface program like PrecisionX or afterburner. They'll give you access to fan controls, memory and gpu clock controls, all that fun stuff.

Has 2 fans.

Like someone else mentioned, download afterburner and use it control fan speed.

Just leave it running at 80 degrees. They are supposed to run at those temps. This is how they run quiet. The card knows what it's doing more than anyone in this thread. Blower fans are not supposed to be thrashed by afterburner novices.

Thanks for the advise. I do have afterburner but will have to read on the controls.

If the temp was maxing out at 80c, I would not be concerned but it is going to 81c which is a bit strange considering that the gpu throttles to maintain a 80c temp (again I am not an expert on this and just read it somewhere)

Don't sweat it bro, I think they nip up to 81 for an instance, at times. Though I couldn't get mine to do that just now. Never goes above 80.
