That's debatable, but in this case likely accurate.

Nowadays the price differences aren't all that different between windows and Mac besides the really high end models. I'm a windows person because I play games, but if games aren't your thing I think you would be better off with the Mac. Build quality/ the apple store convenience is worth the small beans difference in price IMO.

You'll mostly see them used by people in digital media/ graphic arts type programs because people still believe Macs are unequivocally better for that (they used to be, it's really not true anymore).

Aside from that, you'll see them in computer science programs where students do a lot of Unix/Linux development (though that's pretty pointless as you can run Linux in a VM or SSH into a Linux server (at least at both schools I attended) and be better off there since lots of things won't compile properly with the Mac version of gcc).

Finally, everyone else who uses them pretty much does because every smart person in every TV show uses a Mac most of the time and that sort of thing.

The one thing I really, really wish Windows would take from OSX is DPI scaling. Windows would like terrible on those super high resolutions because you couldn't read a damn thing.

Mac OS X is exclusive to Macs.
This hasn't been true since Apple switched to Intel CPUs. Just last week I helped my friend build a PC specifically to run OSX.

exactly what i did at at school

one course even gave us an ubuntu image with all the dev tools we needed for the course work.

i generally did my work on my own machine and then compiled on the school servers before submission.

not sure how it is in other schools but at mine it was split fairly even between macs and non-macs. most people using macs were the asian visa students. people who weren't asian visa students who used macs were in other programs

apple doesn't allow other companies to package their OS onto a computer for retail distribution, unlike microsoft with windows. it's not exclusive in the technical sense but exclusive to them legally.

and may the gods have mercy on you if you get caught breaking licensing in the professional world, because the BSA won't.

They're good laptops. They literally don't have good Windows equivalents.

I still can't believe the blind Apple hate. Literally no equivalent for the macbook air and its price.

It depends on what's important to you. It seems like Apple is hated here because the people that come here would rather not sacrifice specs to lose a couple of pounds.

I personally don't like small laptops either, all my laptops are 17".
