Why are Macbook Pro's so popular? (Need laptop advice)

there was this group in the mid 2000s that bundled hackintosh with other parts that apple virtually obliterated and it was by just bankrupting them through legal costs

Most of the macbook owners you see are borrowed or rented laptops from their work.

Mac OS X is exclusive to Macs.
This hasn't been true since Apple switched to Intel CPUs. Just last week I helped my friend build a PC specifically to run OSX.

I'm well aware of that. Just because you can, doesn't mean it's legal, or easy, or hassle-free, or convenient.

Psystar, and yeah, it wasn't pretty.

They're just nice laptops. You could get a Windows laptop with more power for a lower price, but you'd be hard pressed to find one that compares in specs, battery life, size, weight and build quality for noticeably less.

No one really needs to spend 1500 on a laptop if you are just using it for basic school needs. Get a 500 dollar laptop and use to rest to pay off your student debts.

They are elegant machines. Overpriced to hell but very elegant.

Coming from a .Net developer who only used Windows based PC's since the last year I must say, I am really glad I choose the Macbook Pro option when my DELL work laptop died.

Even though I pretty much stay in a Windows 7 VM all day, switching between them is blazing fast, as fast as the native Windows on my previous DELL. And picking it up and carrying it with me to meetings and to and from work is effortless. Not to the mention the incredible screen.

Would I have bought the thing myself? No, but I can see why people are easy about overpaying or them.

Feel free to post a comparable machine in all respects aside from OS and preinstalled software that costs less.

More and more, it feels like I'm doing a really bad impersonation of myself.
