AMD's Raja Khodury: It's... like getting four generations of hardware ahead

AMD's Raja Khodury: "And it's not a small benefit. It's like getting four generations of hardware ahead with this API."

Intel's VP of Engineering, Eric Mentezer: "This is absolutely, I think, the most significant jump in technology in a long, long time."

Nvidia's VP of Content and Technology, Tony Tamasi: "existing cards will see orders of magnitude improvements from DirectX 12's release, going from hundreds of thousands to millions and maybe tens of millions of system draws in a second."

Baseless PR hype in order to get the community riled up, it is natural graphics cards companies would want to exaggerate the effectiveness of Direct X12 so they could charge you more when they include it in their latest devices.

I installed the cloud to my solid ram floppy drive and now my PC is like way faster. I downloaded some DDR5 memory too from the internet and now internet explorer only crashes a few times a day.

From what i've read it seems to be just a low overhead api that allows developers to access lower level gpu functions much like mantle or the api's of non-directx consoles. Developers have been wanting this for pc's for a very long time.

The thing that interests me most about it is that it's supposed to intelligently balance the workload across every core of your cpu in all directx 12 games (regardless of how many it has), which will be a huge boost in performance for amd users with 6-8 core systems that have had to put up with subpar performance in games that use only 2-4.

Battlefield 3/4, Crysis 3, and Metro last light benchmarks give a peek at what amd users can expect once dx12 games start rolling out. (i.e. very close performance to the best intel processors at a much lower price.)

Isn't DX12 Windows 8 only though?

Probably. I bet MS has been holding these "optimizations" close to them waiting for that perfect time to stay an industry leader

Yes, because the possibility that this is hyperbole has somehow escaped you? Because hardware/software vendors of course never make grandiose claims and then fail to deliver on them....how are those PS2 "Toy Story level" graphics working out for you?

Really? Well that's good to hear since I won't be upgrading to Windows 8 anytime soon. I would figure that MS would be trying to force an upgrade again (though that didn't really work out for them on Vista).
