m50 are the most overrated headphones ever.

Not really just the best headphones under $300 bucks.

The Phillips Fidelio X1's would like a word with you.

lol phillips? haha give me a break. Philips makes everything trash, plus those are almost $300 dollars and I meant Monitor headphones under $300. These are not Monitor headphones.

THEY ARE MONITORS lol

Really bassy monitors. Monitors should be more neutral.

Get a decent sound card that way any headphones will sound 100x better.

No... just no.
DAC's won't even do that.

I personally just ordered some AKG K550's because I needed some closed cans for work.

My priorities were:
1. A good seal so nobody would hear my music. There are plenty of amazing closed phones that don't seal properly, like the Denon D7000's for example.
2. Efficient 32 Ohms so they can be driven by a phone or laptop if need be, but of course a portable amp will be better)
3. As much soundstage as I can get after the other two criteria
4. Comfort.

ATHM50s

The Sennheiser HD650. The over rated ATHM50's can't even hold a candle to those.

They're also WAY more expensive, I got my M50s for $130 and with the stretch mod they're extremely comfortable.

$500 vs $130 roflz.

Pretty much, and they're not that great for gaming. SR850 would be my choice as they are more open. The HD 681 EVO isn't a bad choice either. I think they are Semi-open, but they have a lot of favorable reviews.

um that is so subjective it is stupid, I've gamed with them fine with action and sports games, I just played Batman Orgins last week with them and you can hear every punch and thud and it sound amazing. Why don't you actually try them and form your own opinion on them instead of listening to what a couple other people say? They are monitors, so they aren't going to sound the best on every explosion but they have a flat curve and its on purpose so they don't sound like crap with every EQ you adjust.

Every headphones are good in scenarios when sound doesn't affect your performance.
But for example try playing CS without real good surround sound heaphones, having them increases your performance.

surround sound headphones are just a gimmick, you'll get better performance with stereo headphones and a virtual surround DSP

I was going to post something along these lines to correct him. I was also going to say that CS has a headphone mode that is pretty much VSS without the need for a sound card.

I played some FPS games professionally and I found that VSS and even headphone mode hurt more than they helped.
