Love my DirecTV Genie and service. Of course I only pay $30 a month for it but still, I love it.

Internet by itself = $62/mo
Internet + basic cable + HBO + Starz = $65/mo

It's a no brainer which one to choose in my area. Also, have you never heard of DVR?

Lol actually I have never used a DVR. However I do know what it is and how to use one. However, wouldn't you rather just own the file in a familiar and accessible format?

Also I live in an area where internet is nearly monopolized. Satellite TV is notoriously crappy from what I know, and I also live in an area bound to tropical storms.

My available choices for an ISP are ATT and Time Warner, with the only packages being $40 for basic cable and the only step above is $89.99 for TV + internet.

where the hell are you? i lived in hawaii for 4 years and had directv, literally never had a problem.

You realize Netflix has a fairly small streaming library right? And you have to wait for new seasons of shows currently airing.

Man... *just* internet + basic cable where I'm at more than doubles the cost of internet alone. Some people have some pretty sweet deals - I wonder why that's not available where we are? Even the "introductory" offer would add like $20 to what my bill already is, and it only goes up from there.

I pay $55/mo for 50mpbs Internet. (adding cable would about double the bill)
I pay $8 for Netflix, $8 for Hulu, and get Amazon Prime (which I don't count as a cost, as I would've paid for it anyway just to get the free shipping).
I use my parent's log in to watch HBO GO, ESPN, and Showtime Anytime.
I bought a $30 HD antenna.

That gives me more than enough entertainment options. And if you know someone with a robust cable package and can get their log in, it's what I'd recommend to everyone.

Net here is 30 bucks for 30 meg
And 85 with expanded basic cable.
They now charge 8 bucks per receiver in the home and you can't watch with out a receiver so yeah easy choice. Haven't had cable since 2011.
