Probably a weird question but...anyway to output a GTX 770 to an S-video CRT TV?

It's pretty clear that this discussion isn't going anywhere, so why don't you just wait for your appeal to go through and let the lead moderator (and administrator, if you disagree with the lead moderator's decision) handle this because obviously nothing I say to you is going to change the (incorrect) ideas you have on the legality of using copyrighted software in unauthorized ways.

It's not going anywhere because you are wrong and won't admit you are wrong.

Brb, gonna visit my local library and let them know they can't actually use any of the books in their archive, since the meaning of the word archive is...an item in storage is is not allowed to be used.

In case my previous message wasn't clear enough: I'm done here, and won't be responding in this topic after this (as much as I would love to address the inaccurate points in your last three posts). You can go ahead and try and gloat about whatever reasoning you think is behind it, but the fact is that neither of us is going to change the other's minds, so I'm just stepping out early so that you can let the appeal process go through. If I'm wrong, then it'll get overturned accordingly.

Translation: Even though i'm wrong about the legality of the term "archive" I will pretend I am still right and most likely get my (also wrong) moderator buddies to delete this topic because we are a bunch of power tripping neckbeards who are moral warriors (and hypocrites) who are moderating someone who is using his own bios, his own isos ripped from legit copies of games from his legit collection of 1000+ games to play on his PC.

You are wrong and it isn't going anywhere because you refuse to believe you could be wrong.

Sony themselves said it is completely legal to use an emulator so long as you rip your own bios.

I would love to see the proof that this is illegal.

Ripped copies of games/BIOS are only legal if made for archival purposes. Any copy that is being actively used/played in an emulator is not an archival copy but an active copy.

Here's the proof, straight from the source:

http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-digital.html
Can I backup my computer software?
Yes, under certain conditions as provided by section 117 of the Copyright Act. Although the precise term used under section 117 is “archival” copy, not “backup” copy, these terms today are used interchangeably. This privilege extends only to computer programs and not to other types of works.

Under section 117, you or someone you authorize may make a copy of an original computer program if:

• the new copy is being made for archival (i.e., backup) purposes only;
• you are the legal owner of the copy; and
• any copy made for archival purposes is either destroyed, or transferred with the original copy, once the original copy is sold, given away, or otherwise transferred.

You are not permitted under section 117 to make a backup copy of other material on a computer's hard drive, such as other copyrighted works that have been downloaded (e.g., music, films).

It is also important to check the terms of sale or license agreement of the original copy of software in case any special conditions have been put in place by the copyright owner that might affect your ability or right under section 117 to make a backup copy. There is no other provision in the Copyright Act that specifically authorizes the making of backup copies of works other than computer programs even if those works are distributed as digital copies.

Dumping and using you're bios is legal, of you own the hardware. If you want me to I can pull up some legal cases.

This mod got a little power happy, and is swinging his bat around.

Also in one of the cases brought about the questions of using personal "archived" materials. It's legal too, if you live in the UK it falls under either first purchase or private ownership laws.

Do your homework before you moderate messages.

At least you can actually discuss emulation within reason. Can't stand this forum, oversensitive power trip mods, who moderate you for any little thing, including trying to defend yourself against people literally attacking you.

Yeah I agree with you. Gamefaqs has been going down hill for the past several years. But they've always been anal about "piracy"...

This is not the place to ask about emulators, legal or not.

I mean i can understand wanting to moderate messages that link to downloadable bios or roms/isos, since anyone could click and download them without owning the software.

But attacking me, someone who is ALL FOR legal games, is criminal. I only buy real games for my collection, the only reason I wanted to emulate my copy of Siren 2 is because you are unable to play it on a NTSC tv even with my euro ps2 (since the game only supports pal format tvs). Now that I have a PC capable of emulating PS2, i can finally play the copy i PAID FOR.
