Why doesn't Microsoft just go back to Windows 7 if everybody hates Windows 8?

There's more than a few *nix old schoolers who don't, and won't recognize GNU/Linux as an OS, partially because it isn't. It's an ecosystem sure, but there's no reference implementation and there never will be so the best you'll get is recognizing each distro as it's own OS.

It's still selling decently despite "everyone hating it". It's selling at a faster pace than Vista but slower pace than Windows 7.

"Microsoft sold roughly 240 million license of Windows 7 in a 12 month time period but it has taken Windows 8 15 months to hit 200 million sales. Itís quite clear that, while 200 million is a massive number, it is at a slower pace than Windows 7."

Vista sold around 180 million license 19-22 month after its launch.

I used to hate Win 8 and 8.1 a lot more, until I put a shell on it. That said, my primary OS is still Win 7.

Windows 8 is a mobile OS, M$ trying so hard to make it a PC OS. Windows 7 is much better.

200 million sales to OEM's simply does not equal sales to consumers if those machines are just sitting on the shelves collecting dust. Given the market-share of Windows which has been over 90% for over two decades those numbers don't really mean anything, it just means Microsoft's monopoly is still intact. The only reason why Microsoft can get so many "sales" is because of copyright law. Because of copyright and other ip laws only Microsoft can create and redistribute a windows-like operating system, combined with their market-share MS gets billions of dollars year selling "licenses" of Windows.

Because corporations don't care what people want if they have enough money to operate without public approval.

Why do you think there are so many reality TV shows ?
Why do you think Al Sharpton hasn't been cancelled with less than 10,000 viewers?

They shove what THEY want down the consumer's throats

*double*

That's right. Every sales person I talk to tells me they hate 8 and so do their customers, and that no one wants it.
