I want to become a PC Gamer!

Hardware cost money. A $400 GPU today will be fine for today's standards. You will be able to max alot of games at 1080p. That same GPU, will still be fine in 5-7 years, but with newer games, it's not gonna cut it.

If you read what I said, either way it's going to look better than the ps4.

That's not what you said.

Let's see, my last "$400" gpu lasted me for 5 years but I did sli it a year after because I was able to pick up a cheap secondary card.

If you pick parts right, a gaming PC can last 5-6 years with one $200-$300 GPU upgrade around halfway through. Such a PC can run $900-$1200. You just have to know what to look for, which is basically: Intel Quadcore [preferably one that overclocks, but not absolutely necessary], 8-16GB of Memory and a quality power supply that will cover most single GPUs [something 600w-650w, preferably Seasonic, Antec, or Corsair though there are a few more generally reliable brands/models. *jonnyguru.com does a lot of PSU reviews]

If you want a rig that will last 7-10 years... Get ready to spend a lot. You can drop 1200 and get a rig that will will last about 5 years, then if you want to continue maxing games you'll need to do about 3-4 hundred in upgrades. But if you're okay playing on high/med instead of ultra you can keep that same system. Either way it will still look better than pc.

But for games, wait for steam sales, look at humble bundles, indie gala, indie royal, ect. For building your rig, best time is black Friday (or equivalent).

You'll save a lot compared to console gaming with these sales, with a good computer you'll get awesome graphics, the ability to use custom maps and user made content. There's more but my phone about to die.

Really!? A ps3 can last a whole generation, (7) years..... And its more then half the price of a 5 Year gaming PC? WTF?

Now remember that the games (even at release) are cheaper, you don't have to pay extra to play online and you have better visuals and a MUCH larger library of titles.

And, if I DO decide to get a gaming PC, how would I know what to get? Or what to buy? Or how to build?
#20Sora_AnbuPosted 4/20/2014 8:12:24 PM
YouTube for how to build, pcpartpicker.com for what to pick... Or something like that.
