Admit it, this is EXACTLY why you want VR to become a thing

Thought this topic was going to be about VR sex.

Yep, that's what I expected too. On the plus side, we all know that it's going to happen anyways.

Nowadays we have portable devices and the internet. Anyone saving all that on their hard drive is a moron. Besides, your computer doesn't take up the size of a room, does it?

It doesn't take up an entire room but it is in a room. A lot of people have computer rooms, anyway. There's nothing saying you couldn't put a lock on a holodeck. Also, even if they were too bulky, inconvenient and expensive to have at home, there are still other uses for them. Imagine training surgeons in one. You can't get any closer to the real thing. It would be invaluable.

I think the TC thinks so too - he just wanted to see how many *other* people would say it. Quite a few, it turns out...

The only practical application that couldn't be done on headsets would be actual physical training, like for say military purposes. Everything else is better on headesets, especially because of how little one is restrained by physical boundaries, like one's own body. That makes it more practical for entertainment purposes, whereas for simulation purposes real life conditions could be set. As long as no physical training is needed, then headsets are the way to go, 100%. And with time dilation, suddenly portability becomes a lot easier. Imagine watching an entire tv series during a lunch break or on the train to work. Or spending a few weeks scouting out the nearby lands in Elder Scrolls Virtual Reality between classes.
