To anyone that's used the rift or any other VR device, is there any sense of depth? I mean to me the movement tracking and all that is pointless if it all feels flat

You're seeing a stereoscopic image, so yeah there's a sense of depth

I own an Oculus 1.0 Dev kit and yes, there is a good sense of depth.

With some driver retrofired games (i.e. games not designed with VR in mind that you are using an external program to render) it can be hit or miss.

Skyrim for example works very well while ArmA III (sadly) turns out flat using VorpX.

HL2, which was tuned by Valve and not dependent on stop-gap driver solutions, is amazing.

It feels like taping a 3DS to your forehead.
You can spend $400 on a console and $400 on a cheap PC, or you can spend $800 to build your own and have the best of both worlds.

I wear glasses with a -3.50 prescription and using the C lenses, I don't need them and have no strain on my eyes.

And the sense of depth is only second to real life.... And I only have a dk1 with the bad resolution.

No problems with eye strain or anything, most any adverse effects are going to be of the motion sickness variety.

Further to that, early indications are that the new devkit is way less prone to motion sickness than DK1 was.
