My problem with it is it did not fit my personal definition of a rpg.

The end of the rollarcoaster is always boring. This is nothing new.

This makes no sense when applied to how a story is structured.

What game has had a good ending?
Every story based game I have ever played has always had a fairly shallow ending.

we're still bashing me3? i thought we were done with that a while ago?

the sad fact is, we have nothing NEW to bash. so we are digging up 3+ year old games, and bashing them.

I hated the ending because it ENDED. I want more. Thank you for sharing.

I don't need to make a list of games with strong endings to explain why the structure of a rollercoaster makes no sense in comparison to the structure of a plot, be it game movie novel whatever.

You really don't get the metaphor?

Rollarcoasters go up and down, usually big excitement as they go up, reach the top, then wind down. Often over and over until finally reaching the bottom when you feel disappointment because the excitement is over.

A typical story starts low, builds to a climax then falls to an end. Video games usually have multiple climaxes because they can tell a longer story.

I don't really get why people were surprised.

I mean I played ME and it was damn, this reapers are bad ass, look how much damage 1 reaper did.

Then I played ME2 and saw dat ending it was holy crap, how you supposed to win against this. According to what I saw in part 1, this battle is not winnable.

Between how strong ME1 reaper was and the sheer volume in ME2 they set up the story for failure.

If Bioware/EA had balls they would make it so you DO lose in ME3, but there is some underlying thread of hope attached. Like you somehow manage to break the chain and there is still a tiny galactic population left to live on.

In fact, if EA didnt buy Bioware that could have been what Bioware choose.
